Washington, April 9: People's attitudes to sexual relationships can be given away by just the look of their face, say researchers, who have found that men and women look for opposites when it comes to relationships.
Researchers said that men generally preferred women they perceive are open to short-term sexual relationships, while women seek longer-term matches.
The study, which was led by Durham University, reviewed 700 heterosexual participants.
The analysis of the study revealed that young men and women look for complete opposites when it comes to relationships with the other sex.
The scientists say that the research, which was funded by the Medical Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council, shows that people can use their perceptions to make more informed partner selections depending on the type of relationship they are pursuing.
In the study, the participants were asked to judge the attractiveness and attitudes to sex of the opposite sex from their facial photographs. These perceptual judgments were then compared with the actual attitudes and behaviours of the individuals in the photographs, which had been determined through a detailed questionnaire. The people in the photographs were all in their early 20s.
The experiments found that the men and women taking part could generally judge from photographs who would be more interested in a short-term sexual relationship. In the first study sample of 153 participants, 72 per cent of people correctly identified the attitudes from photographs more than half of the time. However, further questioning showed that the participants were not always confident in their judgments.
The research also found that women who were open to short-term sexual relationships were usually seen by others as more attractive - although researchers can not determine precisely why without further investigation. The men who were most open to casual sex were generally perceived as being more masculine-looking, with facial features including squarer jaws, larger noses and smaller eyes.
These findings support previous research carried out by the Durham team, which found that women see masculine men as more likely to be unfaithful and as worse parents.
Lead author Dr Lynda Boothroyd from Durham University's Psychology Department said: "Our results suggest that although some people can judge the sexual strategies of others simply by looking at their faces, people are not always sure about their judgements possibly because the cues are very subtle. Yet, the preferences for different types of faces were actually quite strong."
"This shows that these initial impressions may be part of how we assess potential mates - or potential rivals - when we first meet them. These will then give way over time to a more in-depth knowledge of that person, as you get to know them better, and may change with age," she added.
The study is published in the journal Evolution and Human Behavior.

Latest News Kuselan - Kuselan distribution rights sold for 64 crores
Superstar Rajinikanth starrer Kuselan has been sold for 64 crores to Pyramid Saimeera according to the latest buzz doing rounds in the Tamil industry. The competators for obtaining the distribution rights for Kuselan has been Pyramid Saimeera, Adlabs, and Ayngaran films and Pyramid Saimeera has emerged the victorious of the lot by obtaining the combined rights for Tamil and Telugu for a whopping 64 crores.
Kuselan which is the remake of Malayalam superhit Katha Parayumbol has been remade in Tamil as Kuselan and Telugu as Kuseludu. The movie will also star Pasupathy, Meena, Prabhu, Vadivelu, Santhanam and Livingston in the Tamil version. It is said that two songs sung by Shankar Maha Devan and Hariharan have been already completed for Kuselan.

Dozens of people, including journalists, were injured when police cane-charged frenzied crowds at the star-studded audio launch function here Friday of the Kamal Haasan-starrer ‘Dasavatharam’ that was attended by Hollywood star Jackie Chan and Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan.
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and Kamal Haasan were also present during the launch. There was confusion at the Nehru Stadium, as thousands of passes had been distributed among the members of the Tamil cinema industry, fans of Kamal Haasan, the top brass of music company Sony BMG and leading lights of the ruling DMK regime, said a witness.
“Tempers ran high - on the side of the police as well as the fans. While the fans thought they had been cheated of a peek at the stars, the policemen felt they were doing a thankless job confounded by poor organisation,” says A.R. Laxman, a music company executive attending the function.
Media persons who had flown in from Mumbai and Delhi were not only kept out of the stadium because it was already packed, quite a few had to bear the brunt of police canes.
Police officials, however, expressed helplessness.
“Our job was to prevent any untoward incident to the VIPs. Would journalists have forgiven us if something bad had happened?” asked a flustered police official.
Matters were made worse by the presence of a large number of ruling DMK workers.
A spokesperson of Sony BMG, which has produced the film’s music, said they were unaware of the mayhem outside as they were present backstage.
Earlier, Jackie Chan and Bachchan where whisked from the Anna International Air Terminal in bullet-proof limousines to the Taj Coromandel Hotel by producer Oscar Ravichandran.

NO TRISHA AS BRAND AMBASSADOR FOR CHENNAI SUPER KINGS LEAGUE TEAM
All the buzz doing the rounds that Trisha has replaced Nayantara as brand ambassador for Chennai Super Kings along with Vijay is not true, says sources of the Chennai Super Kings. Reacting to Nayantara’s accusation that the Chennai Super Kings comittee has behaved in a unprofessional manner by eleminating her as the brand ambassador for the tournament, Mr Gurunath Meiyappan has denied her accusation.
According to them, Nayantara’s lack of commitment to the tournament is the reason for them to sack her. Nayantara was contacted days before the April 23 match for her appearance in the match. Captain Dhoni too spoke to her and requested her appearance. She never made any solid commitment for the match, inspite of them contacting her repeatedly, and finally did not attend the match on 23rd. They also cross-checked the claim that she was in the hospital, after fainting on the sets of Kuselan, but their report was that she was in the hospital only for a couple of hours. She would have had plenty of time to call in and inform them of her non appearance in the match.
Hence they have decided now to go ahead with a single ambassador, actor Vijay. The rumors making rounds that Trisha has replaced Nayantara as the brand ambassador is not true. Vijay seems to be a perfect single ambassador as he moves around as a part of the team, cancels his shoot and comes to the stadium to watch the players at the nets. The Chennai Super Kings team are rocking and are strong contenders to win the DLF IPL Twenty20, inaugural 2008 cup.

Superstar Rajinikant’s absence in Kamal Hassan’s ‘Dasavatharam’ audio release function in Chennai brought out the rift between the two in public.
It seems, the two superstars—Kamal and Rajini—are fighting an undeclared war for supremacy in South.
Sources reveal that Rajini has politely turned down the invitation for ‘Dasavatharam’ audio release function. He said he was busy shooting for his film, ‘Kucheludu’ (Telugu version of ‘Kuselan’, which, again, is the remake of Mammootty-starrer Malayalam hit ‘Katha Prayumbol’) in Film City, Hyderabad. It’s also learnt that Kamal had made no extra efforts to ensure his old friend’s presence in the star-studded show.
However, it’s hard to believe that Rajini had no time for a function of this magnitude. For, not long back, he had found time to launch the audio of `Bujjigade in Chennai’ directed by Puri Jagannath.
In the past, Kamal went on record saying there’s a competition between Rajini and him, but it was purely professional. Superstar Kamal Haasan gets ready to don the role of ten different characters in his forthcoming film ‘Dasavatharam’ (Ten Incarnations). Speaking to the media at a news conference Kamal Haasan said that ‘Dasavathaaram’ was one of his most ambitious project.
“This is the first time they (Critics) say that one actor has played ten characters it is not changing of guard, its characters and that’s new for me at least,” said Haasan.
“The screenplay is something I enjoyed that’s the 11th role that I play in the film but that’s the pivotal role, which made other ten roles possible. It’s been a different job as different as essaying the ten roles but it was interesting,” added Haasan.
Haasan besides acting in the film has written the story, screenplay and the dialogues for the film.
Bollywood super star Amitabh Bachchan who was present at news conference also congratulated Kamal Haasan on his Herculean effort.
“After watching few clips of the film I was spell bound. It’s a grand film and I am eager to see it. I congratulate him (Kamal Haasan) only he can do such a wonderful work and set example for us every time he does it,” said Bachchan.
Known South Indian director K.S. Ravikumar, who has many big budget films to his credit, has directed the film.
Other than Kamal Haasan the film stars Mallika Sherawat, Assin and Jaya Prada.
Bollywood composer Himesh Reshammiya has scored the music for the film, his first ever for a Tamil production.
Hollywood action superstar Jackie Chan was flown to India to especially release the music of this much-hyped movie.
It was the producer of the movie V. Ravichandran who managed to persuade Chan to do the honours since he holds the rights to release Jackie Chan’s movies in India. Jackie Chan released the music of the film ‘Dasavathaaram’ at the Nehru Indoor Stadium in the city.

ADLABS OPENS NEW THEATRE IN COIMBATORE TAMIL NADU ADLABS THEATRE IN KOVAI
Adlabs Cinemas, part of the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group and entertainment company Adlabs Films, on Thursday announced its foray into South India by setting up a first four-screen cinema at Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
KG Adlabs, formerly KG Cinemas, is Adlabs’ first theatre in Coimbatore. It would have four screens with a seating capacity of 2,253 seats.
“We have just begun to penetrate the Southern region and expect to capture a big market share in the South by end of 2008,” Adlabs Cinemas Chief Operating Officer Tushar Dhingra said in a statement here.

Malayalam actor Mohanlal today gave up his plan to perform the risky ‘fire escape’ act as part of a magic on April 27 giving in to pressure from his fans and well wishers including the film fraternity. In a statement, the actor has said that he gave up the risky event because it had triggered controversy.
Earlier, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) and the Mohanlal Fans Association (MFA) urged the actor to call off the stunt. Mohanlal’s decision to perform the event ‘burning illusion’ had evoked crticism as well as concern from various quarters. On Tuesday, police arrested rival magician Samraj who attempted suicide by locking himself in a mobile mortuary set to minus 10 degree centigrade in a bid to force Mohanlal to call off his act. Several other magicians also joined the protest against the film star’s attempt to “make mockery of our hard work and dedication through small tricks.”
The special event was planned by Magic Academy of Muthukad as a prelude to international magic convention ‘Vismayam 2008″ beginning here on May 1 in association with Kerala State Youth Welfare Board. The actor had been taking lessons from Muthukad to perfom the feat for the last two years.

With about five days left for the audio launch of Dasavatharam, the latest dope on what seems like one of the most extravagant pre-release events is Kollywood’s latest interest.
Apart from Jackie Chan and other senior artists from different parts of the country, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi will also participate in the mega event to be held at the Nehru Indoor Stadium. It will later be telecast on Kalaignar TV, industry sources said.
The team showed a trailer of the film to the Chief Minister recently. Mr. Karunanidhi is said to have been very impressed with Kamal Haasan’s efforts and congratulated him with a hug and a kiss. He asked the actor, “Are all those people really you?”
Sources said the actor plays 10 different characters and the story is not about one person in different guises.
It is learnt that the story begins with an episode set in the 12th century, and then looks at coincidences. In this, Kamal plays Nambi, a staunch V aishnavite priest. Lyricist Vaali’s lines - ‘Kallai mattum paarthal kadavul theriyadu, kadavul mattum paarthal kalladi theriyadu…” powerfully describe the character’s devotion in playback singer Hariharan’s voice.
The other characters are an American, a Chinese man, a CBI officer from Andhra Pradesh, an old lady, a leader from Afghanistan, a Scheduled Tribes’ leader, George Bush, a Punjabi and one character, who looks like Kamal normally does.
The film apparently has a very simple screenplay sans usual elements of commercial films such as duets and unwarranted action. The actor has dubbed for all the characters, modulating his voice appropriately. Besides watching a lot of video recordings of George Bush, the actor also put in extra efforts to get his tone and accent right. He also took the help of daughter Shruti while attempting to perfect the accent.
Make-up menace
The make up for the different characters took as long as nine hours. However, it would not stay even for an hour. This meant that the actor started his day at 3 a.m., spent time on make up till noon, started shooting at 1 p.m. and wound up before 2 p.m. He would sit straight and drink fluids using a straw with minimum possible movement of facial muscles to ensure the make up was not disturbed.

Prof. Chris Griffiths, a dermatologist at Manchester University, said that though sophisticated skincare products can help curb ageing, he would recommend that those worried about wrinkles and dark circles should apply sun creams.
He also warned that women could be damaging their skin by using different anti-ageing creams because the side-effects of combining them had not been tested properly.
"The majority of anti-ageing skin products are actually aimed at countering the effects of sun exposure, not at how our body naturally ages. If I had to pick just one product, it would be sun cream," The Telegraph quoted Prof. Griffiths, as saying.
Last year, Prof. Griffiths encouraged several women to buy Boots' Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum by proving that it worked.
In May, Boots stores across the country were short in supply of the face cream after his research featured on the BBC2 programme 'Horizon'.
Now, Prof. Griffiths, at a press conference in London, said that for the majority, the most noticeable signs of ageing, including wrinkles and crow's feet around the eyes, were caused by sun damage.

He also warned that too little was known about the dangers of mixing different skincare products because they were all usually tested in isolation.
Combining the ingredients of popular face creams could cause allergic reactions or hazardously boost the amount of a sensitive chemical, he added.
"All the ingredients (in these creams) have been tested individually. But, of course, what they don't test is what happens when people use lots of different products together. There needs to be more tests on how such ingredients are really used and what the dangers could be," he said.

London, July 10: Latest research by scientists in Britain indicates that besides causing cancer, heart attacks and strokes, smoking also affects muscles.
Researchers, who studied the health of 16 people all considered to be healthy and having no symptoms of lung disease, said that those who smoke are likely to lose more muscle mass in old age than non-smokers.
The new research published in the American Journal of Physiology shows that smoking is likely to speed up a condition known as sarcopenia - the loss of muscle mass with ageing which is linked to poor balance, gait speed, falls, and fractures.
The study participants were divided in two equal groups - heavy smokers, who had smoked at least a pack of 20 cigarettes a day for at least 20 years and non-smokers.
The researchers at the University of Nottingham discovered that the amounts of myostatin, a muscle growth inhibitor and MAFbx enzyme that breaks down muscle protein, were higher in smokers than non-smokers.
'From our tests, we can conclude that smoking impairs day to day upkeep of muscle,' said researcher Philip Atherton.

But many families depend on daily wages and kids are sent for labour and hence, they miss out on their education and a bright future. The Ministry of Education, Government of TN, came up with the idea of some stars doing a documentary to spread awareness on the literacy issue. My Agaram Foundation is already involved in the cause of education. So, we were excited by this opportunity to further the cause and offered to produce a short film on literacy instead.”

After looking at the invitations, Rama Gopalan, the president of Hindu Munnani and others rushed to the spot and removed the posters and banners of the film stuck on the walls of AVM studios. It is also said the offending still was used for the promos of the film, produced by Anbu Thenarasan, who the Hindu activists alleged was a rationalist.
M Saravanan of AVM Studios apparently talked to the producer and asked him to find a solution to the problem at the Tamil Nadu Producers’ Council. According to the producer Thenarasan, the scene is part of a comic interlude and was not meant to offend anyone. The film is being scripted and directed by S N Ariram.

It’s long been one of Detroit’s Big 3 (along with General Motors and Ford). Lee Iacocca became a business icon after he successfully helmed its turnaround. Brands owned by it include the legendary Plymouth, Dodge and the original Jeep. And now, it’s driving into the city’s ITES (infotech-enabled services) space. According to people close to the development, Chrysler is setting up an 80,000 sq ft ITES operation in RMZ Millenia IT Park in south Chennai. This will be Chrysler’s first operation in India. The exact nature of the proposed centre’s operations is still not clear, but it is expected to strengthen Chennai’s claim of being among the best locations for automobiles related ITES globally. “We have been told that Chrysler’s call centre operations would be for their customers. They have initially taken 20,000 square feet and have signed agreements to take another 60,000 square feet. Their operations alone would attract 800 staffers,” official sources at RMZ Millenia Park said. The centre would do work both for Chrysler Motors and its arm, Chrysler Financial, sources added. WORLD'S COSTLIEST BICYCLE IN AUTO EXPO - Costliest bicycle vies with cheapest car at auto expo
New Delhi, January 11 : Madone 5.2, a Rs.100,000 ($2,500) pedal bicycle launched by Noida-based FireFox Bikes, can go where the world's cheapest car, the Tata Nano that comes at the same cost, cannot.
"Madone 5.2 can take you to places where the Nano cannot and with its 20 high-speed gears, it is much faster than the small wonder," said a Firefox official at the Auto Expo 2008 here.
Madone can notch up to 90 km per hour (kmph) through its 20 high-speed gears, the company claimed.
The 'Tata Expo', as Firefox officials prefer to call this annual auto jamboree, may have deflected attention from the bike as well as other worthy products, but Madone's suppliers are not complaining.
This made-to-order bike is a de-tuned version of seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong's bike - Madone 6.5 SSL - and has a lifetime warranty on the carbon frame.
"You can take it anywhere. It weighs 900 gm and on a day when traffic is sparse on Delhi roads, this bike can speed up to 90 kmph, which is almost on a par with Tatas small car," said the official.
"This year's expo, with all that hype around the Tata Nano, was perhaps the best platform to showcase our products when everyone is talking of green cars and emission," he added.
"The Auto Expo is a mobility exhibition. As the concept is mobility, why not bicycles?" FireFox Managing Director Shiv Inder Singh told reporters at a press conference.
He said the company's participation at the expo was aimed at creating awareness among young customers on the need for environment-friendly transport alternatives.
"In a few years, you will have to dump your car for a cycle to travel. With the number of vehicles on Delhi roads crossing the 5.1 million mark, maybe this is just the time," said Singh.
The Madone 5.2 is sure to get some kind of encouragement from the Delhi government, which is serious about developing integrated network of bicycle tracks for the city.
"Look at Chandigarh. They have more bikes than cars now. Delhi definitely has the space and the mindset for such high quality bikes."
The Delhi Master Plan 2012 has elaborate provision for cyclists.
The new grade separator coming up at Mukarba crossing on National Highway 1 and the 16-km long capacity bus corridor between Ambedkar Nagar and Delhi Gate has cycle tracks incorporated in the design.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has also set up a cycle track cell, which is in the process of preparing a bicycle master plan for the city.

Love - it is the elixir of life. Love, they say can move mountains and melt stones. Nothing can stop love and when love is sacrificed for something more sacred, it is still love that wins. For it is love that gives us the strength, and inspires us to do things that our normal selves would not. Love isn’t always about possession or being together-sometimes love also means giving up, parting ways. There have been movies before that have shown love in this light. Kannum Kannum joins that league of rare films that have shown that love can be selfless. A beautifully made, silent love story full of innocence. A whiff of fresh air amidst the rush of popcorn romances.
Prasanna plays an orphan in Chennai who has fought a battle with his cruel fate and emerged successfully as an engineer, ready to take on life. He has a hobby- poetry, and wants to get one of his poems published in a magazine. Much to his surprise he sees his poem in the magazine but under the name of Shenbagavalli. He tracks the origin of the letter all the way to Kuttralam but the poetess' identity is a secret, she had been using a pen name. Prasanna writes letters to 'Shenbagavalli', a simple, chirpy and innocent girl of Kuttralam played by Udhaythara.
The vibes that they shared soon blooms into love, unspoken but understood, silent but strong, more platonic than romantic. As they share their love through letters, destiny brings them closer, within touching distance. And yet the lovers don’t realize it. They loved through letters hoping that some day the gods would unite them for a lifetime. Little did they know that their love was with them, near them, and that time was fast slipping away. As close as they were being brought together by the hands of fate, the farther they were being swept away from their dream of living a life together. When they finally recognize each other, time has slipped. Destiny has put them in a quandary where they will have to hurt their most beloveds for their love and the decision they have to make is not easy.
The film's message is that love is the most beautiful of all of God's creations, it is meant to spread joy, happiness and smiles. Love that hurts anyone so dear is perhaps not love as love was meant to be. G. Marimuthu, debuting with story, screenplay, dialogue and direction has provided us with one of the cleanest, most honest and endearing love stories of recent times. We can't help feeling sympathetic (a few might feel empathetic) for the young lovers but the director convinces us that the ending could not have been different. The screenplay is disarmingly cute, without any unnecessary intrusions and devoid of unsavory commercial elements. It is love, family and friendship all the way and we can for once declare with confidence that this is how a family movie should be. The dialogues have to be singled out for special appreciation. The technicians too have done their bit convincingly to help the movie on all fronts.

‘Nepali, the name itself suggests that something different is on offer. But everything that is different need not always be interesting. In a way, Nepali has nothing new in terms of its basic plot. It’s the same boy meets girl, love at first sight, marriage, tragedy and revenge plot, but the script takes a slightly offbeat route.
Nepali is the story of a young man, Bharath, who does odd jobs in many places during the day but assumes a dangerously sadistic persona at times. It is as if he knows things that few others know, doing things for reasons that only he knows. His hands hold steady as he sends people to their death, often in the most grueling ways. The law is behind him. But one thing puzzles us: why is he dressed in such a peculiar manner- those pointed brows and small eyes. Is he from Nepal?
Nepali is also the story of another young man, played by Bharath again, who has to face bitter experiences that change him forever. To start with, Bharath is shown as a software engineer, young and happy and in love with a girl in Ooty, Meera Jasmine. Facing opposition from her family, the lovers have no option but to elope and marry. It is a happy and contented life in a world of their own –and it couldn’t get better. But the evil shadow of a police officer who has developed a desire for Meera Jasmine lurks over them. Desire becomes obsession and tragedy follows close behind.
Nepali tells the story of one other young man- Bharath again! who ends up in jail for a crime that he could not avoid committing. In jail he meets a man who holds many secrets that could knock down many big names in the city. In the dark shadows of the gallows, the secrets change hands while no one notices. The hunted man with secrets does not survive but leaves his unfinished tasks in the hands of the young man he met.
This is basically what Nepali is all about. You might be a bit confused, and that’s exactly how the script is - confusing. You might also think that there are many layers to the story but it is actually a simple linear story that has been convoluted back and forth to produce a movie that falls just short of being interesting. The film is set in three time periods and the script moves back and forth between then and now. This kind of narration can be interesting, but the talented director, V.Z. Dhorai (remember the excellent Mugavari?), somehow misfires. This see-sawing narrative movement only makes the movie lose momentum far too many times, always moving in fits and starts, never settling into a steady pace.
The cast, except for Bharath, do not have
a great deal to do. Bharath, in perhaps the most challenging role of his career, has done well. However, we have to remark that there was more potential in the role, and the director should have got more out of the star. Meera Jasmine’s role isn’t challenging: she walks through it with ease. Govind Namdev, as the old man in jail, has done a neat job. The rest of the cast consist of Charan Raj, Dhandapani, Raja Ravinder and Goutham who have all done fairly well with the limited roles they play.
Music by Srikanth Deva is a definite plus point, especially with the ‘Hey You’ being really lively. The script also flirts briefly with comedy with Mayilsaamy and company, trying to raise a few laughs. The Bharath-Meera romance is a low point in the movie: it never seems to work. It is not endearing, except in one song. Technically, the movie deserves praise for Mathi’s camera and Madan Gunadeva’s editing. The movie does seem a bit lengthy-around 3 hours.
Overall, Nepali is a product that started off with a good idea but slipped down because of a script that failed to maintain flow and execution that took the zing out of the plot. Certain scenes seem to go on forever. Nepali is not bad, not exactly mediocre either - it just fails to give us a really interesting three hours. During the film’s climax, Bharath runs into a subway followed by policemen; gunshots are heard and then…… you’re in for a surprise!

Thozha makes you travel back in time for twenty years. Not that the movie is particularly nostalgic or that it evokes the finest of emotions - it is the script that would have been a hit in the early eighties. Director Sundareswaran subjects you to a melodramatic version of struggling-youngsters-making-it-big combined with a friend’s-sacrifice story. He also stages the hate-me-since-I-will-die-in-a-few-days sacrificial love story intertwined in a plot already ridden with too many clichés.
Nitin Satya is a successful civil engineer among his friends, and doles out enough money to keep his friends going. His money sustains the friendship. His friends are: Premji, an unemployed and frustrated history graduate who swears by government jobs and is in search of one; Vasanth Vijay who is an aspiring amateur actor; Nitin who falls in love at first sight when visiting a village belle, and accidentally hurts his head.
He consults with the doctor only when it is too late and finds out that he has little time left to live. Predictably, in an attempt to sacrifice his love he performs a goofy trick that makes the village belle take the wrong decision about her life. Her brother seeks vengeance now and comes after him to the city. If you thought this is enough to put you off, it’s only half the story. The rest of what is left with the plot toils sluggishly and reaches its culmination with a happy and sad ending, which is a far from being poignant.
The insipid plot ensures nothing rises above the mediocre mark – with the only relief coming in the form of Nitin and Vasanth Vijay. Although not a saving grace, Nitin can emote well, without melodrama. Vasanth Vijay stands next to Nitin in performance and the rest of the cast fade into oblivion even before we have left the theatre (even if you prefer not to stay till the end, that is!). Less said the better about Vennira Aadai Moorthy and Babylona’s tacky comedy track.
Premji Amaran’s score is middling. However, his ‘Oru Nayagan’ remix is cleverly done borrowing bits and pieces of ‘Ilamai Idho Idho’.
If only replicating the star cast of a hit movie can actually make a hit (remember, Thozha has four of the Chennai – 28 stars) but alas, no.
Verdict: Drives you up the wall!

‘You guys going to work?” asks a distressed and unemployed Karunas - accompanied by Dhanush - to a few girls waiting in the bus station. There you have the quintessential Danush plot: a jobless youngman, his love-at-first-sight, a far from considerate and a subject-of-abuse father, and a love embroiled in an inconsiderate relationship. Yaaradi Nee Moghini is smartly packaged with everything inevitable in a Dhanush movie. With subdued emotions that hardly ever go overboard and in your face humor, director A. Jawahar gets everything right. Well, almost.
Dhanush is a happy go lucky guy desperately in search of a job despite his bare minimum qualifications. One of those job-search episodes makes him catch a glimpse of Nayan who works for a software company. Dhanush falls instantly in love and luck favors him to secure a job in the same company, much to his delight, in Nayan’s team.
While Dhanush nurtures his love for Nayan secretly, she turns a blind eye considering his lack of education and proper upbringing. And when he reveals his feelings, Nayan turns him down, further humiliating his father Raghuvaran, leading to death. Although secretly in love with Dhanush, Nayan, considering her orthodox Brahmin background, decides to be married to Karthick instead. The wedding has already been planned by her parents. However, in the end, she expresses her love to Dhanush the night before the wedding. Now it is for Dhanush to decide whether to accept the love that cost him so dearly or to turn his back and pretend to lead a normal life.
Dhanush has immense scope in a role that is tailor-made for him and he pulls it off with consummate ease. Be it as a distraught jobless youngster or a love struck man craving for the impassive dream girl, the job couldn’t have fit anyone else this well. Nayan dispels her bombshell act and proves that she can more than just that. She breaks into tears when needed, shows vicious contempt when rubbed the wrong way in the name of love, and looks endearing in songs.
Raghuvaran’s performance deserves a standing ovation and is a proof of how magnificent an actor he was. Ironically, there are scenes in the movie that has Dhanush perform Raghu’s last rituals that will reduce a viewer to tears.
The humor goes with the flow, and scenes like the whole family of a dozen’s trip to the textile shop in a single vehicle is sure to bring the house down. Karunas establishes that Dhanush brings the best out of him yet again. Remember Polladhavan? However, it is hard not to frown, and often sneer, at the dialogue since it has B & C center audience written all over it.
Director Jawahar has neatly packaged the movie with less melodrama that is surprisingly tad unusual for a movie that focuses on a love story of a girl hailing from an orthodox family. Yuvan’s rerecording breathes life into the movie. So do the songs. Three of them linger long after you have left the theatre. Special mention must be made of the item number performed by a desi Shakira in the train that averts folks from sneaking out of the halls for a smoke. Kudos to the cinematographer who has captured Australia’s vibrant landscape breathtakingly. Bhaskar’s editing helps keep up the pace of the movie.
If you do not mind the usage of crude language, especially between a father and a son, and the dialogues in general that seem a little bent towards a B and C center audience, you are in for a total treat in the Dhanush brand style.
Few fries short of a happy meal!

Aishwarya has put to rest the - will she, won’t she? question with her recent interview where she firmly states that she is a part of Robot and would love to work with Rajinikanth.
Speculation has been rife for the past couple of days, that Aishwarya has been out of the project and Deepika Padukone is being considered for the role. Since the project started there have been a lot of speculation about if she’ll do the movie, how much she would be paid for it etc. A Mumbai tabloid reported a couple of days that Shankar plans to shoot ‘Robot’ over a period of two years as already known to the chennai365 readers and that apparently is not acceptable to Ash who cannot afford to give so much of time to a project.
There was also news that she has accepted to do Dostana, a bollywood flick by Karan Johar instead of Robot. Dostana was to star husband Abhishek, John Abraham and Aishwarya in the lead roles. Aishwarya opted out of Dostana because the inter-personal relationships among the three of them in the movie made her uncomfortable.
Speaking about Rajinkanth starrer Robot she says its a complete Rajini-Shankar styled entertainer. There’s no logic as to why she agreed to do it beyond the urge to work with Rajinikanth. She also added that she wanted to work with Rajini sir and Shankar. Her Jeans with Shankar was a super success. She has learnt so much from Jeans and Shankar. Robot, too, will be a learning experience, adds Aishwarya in the interview.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will upgrade the Kolkata and Chennai airports at a cost of Rs 3,800 crore.
“AAI will spend Rs. 2,000 crore to modernise the Kolkata airport and Rs. 1,800 crore for the Chennai airport. The modernisation process has to be completed by 2010-11,” Chairman K. Ramalingam said here on Thursday.
In Kolkata, a new runway would be laid along the existing one. In Chennai, the existing cross runway would be operationalised and an additional runway built.
“The in-principle approval for the modernisation plans of the two airports has been given.” The projects would be carried out solely by AAI.
A third runway at the Delhi airport would be commissioned by September.
Speaking at the inauguration of ‘Aerodrome India 2008’, a three-day international exhibition on airport infrastructure, security and services, Mr. Ramalingam said there was need to build aviation infrastructure at a faster rate to manage traffic and build capacity at airports.
Indian airports handled 73.3 million passengers and 1.4 million tonnes of cargo in 2005-06. Civil aviation is expected to enjoy a compounded growth of about 25 per cent per annum for the next 10 years, according to official estimates. Source: hindu

Imageworks India, the Indian arm of Sony Pictures Imagework, Thursday announced opening of its state-of-the-art facility in Chennai. The Chennai facility has about 90 artists and technical experts and would be scaled up to 180 workers, the company said here. It also has seven animation experts. “In the first year of operation, our primary goal has been to integrate our India operations into our Culver City production workflow,” said Tim Sarnoff, president of Sony Pictures Imageworks.
“Artists are no longer afraid of technology, especially in India,” he said.“I hope to create a cohesive work group,” Joe Gareri, general manager and executive director in charge of operations in India, told IANS. Before joining Imageworks, Gareri worked with Pacific Titles and in the films like the three sequels of “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Catwoman”, “Men in Black” and several other titles.
Founded in 1992, Imageworks - a component of the US-based Sony Pictures Digital Production - acquired 50.1 percent stake in FrameFlow (India) Private Ltd., at a cost of $5 million last year. FrameFlow was founded three years ago by the promoters of Shasun Chemicals, the Chennai-based pharma company and first worked Imageworks on films such as “Click”, “Ghost Rider” and “Spiderman-3″.
Globally, Sony Imageworks is doing business worth nearly $7 billion, and has captured 37 percent of the box office for global visual work. Imageworks has production studios in Culver City, California, and New Mexico, and now in Chennai.“One of my priorities will be to ensure multitasking training for the workforce in India and integrate the working timeframe with our Culver City studio,” Garei said. “We lose two work days, if the time zones are not integrated smoothly,” he said. The Chennai facility will work seamlessly with the Culver City facility in the visual effects of seven Hollywood films, now under production.
Imageworks has done the visual effects for “Spiderman”, “Monster House”, “Stuart Little”, “The Chronicles of Narnia” and several other academy award winning films.Its most recent films have been “Ghost Rider”, “Beowulf” and “I Am Legend”. In “I Am Legend”, the Indian team worked on the Time Square Meadow scene in which Will Smith is seen in a ruined grass-grown Time Square. “Our team is now working on the next release, a film called Hancock”, said Krishnakant Mishra, who was creative supervisor for films like “Lord of The Rings”, and is the creative director of Imageworks India. Sanroff, who came to Imageworks from Warner Digital Studios, a Warner Bros. organisation says, “a successful film is one person’s imagination vended by 50 others”.
“Film-makers are today getting very good at describing exactly what they want,” Sanroff said.“Film-makers have got the vocabulary of expression and artists have also learnt the vocabulary. At the end of it we are all storytellers. “It is finally the great visual effects supervisors like Kevin Mack and Ken Ralston who are able to bring to life the images of the filmmaker’s story.” His vision of the future, “gaming and film will come closer”.
Sanroff, who has seen Bollywood films like “Krish” and “Chak De”, said: “Imageworks is in the business of visualising, whether it is Hollywood film or Bollywood film or one made in Hong Kong or elsewhere.” Source: thaindian,IANS
